Show HN: Tape It, iOS recording app for musicians
20 by earthnail | 7 comments on Hacker News.
Hello HN, Over the last 15 months, two friends and I developed the music recording app we felt we wanted based on our own needs as musicians. It's called Tape It [1] and has just recently hit the Apple App Store [2]. We put a lot of effort into a good UX to help musicians really focus on playing their instrument instead of pretending to be a recording engineer. The app records in stereo on newer iPhones (although that's a premium feature; the free version only records in standard mono audio quality). I would be really grateful for advice from this community on how to best approach marketing. We had a great TechCrunch article covering our launch [3], and we posted it on various music websites. Turns out advertising on Google or Apple Search is a dark art, though. We have some good ideas for developing a good social media presence, but they will take time. Please hit us with feedback, opinions and advice that you think a young indie company like us can use at this point :). And of course, please go and try the app! Best, Thomas [1] https://tape.it [2] https://get.tape.it [3] https://tcrn.ch/3nbODHD

Show HN: TogetherLetters - Social updates for a group without using social media
4 by sanjayparekh | 1 comments on Hacker News.
Hey all, my co-founder (@adamjwalker) and I have been working on TogetherLetters for a few months. We all realize that people aren't (can't be?) authentic on social media. So we decided to launch an automatic regular newsletter for groups to share honest updates. TogetherLetters sends members of a group an email for an update and then combines all the updates from group members into a group newsletter. Importantly, updates are never published on the web so we've seen people be honest, vulnerable, and authentic in updates and thus get help and support from their groups. We have a few paying users but we'd love for more folks to check it out and give us feedback - good and bad - about what we're doing. Groups of 10 or less are free forever (bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly newsletters) and paid groups start at just $5/mo (weekly newsletters and up to 50 members). https://ift.tt/2W825kw Thanks!

Show HN: I'm using a nocode comm tool
2 by saddington | 1 comments on Hacker News.
orignally shared this on startup school... i thought id' share it here. i'm using a `nocode communication tool` (a web-based interface... a single browser tab!) for all of these things: 1. landing page — the landing page is the product and i wanted for folks to feel "transported" right into the app without having to walk through a shitty b2b marketing-style content. this is akin to my experience back in the `BBS` days of the mid-90's where you were immediately into the app, community, and tool. no terms of service, no privacy policy. just pure, immediate value. 2. building community — we talk about life and startups and the metaverse and bitcoin and writing and all of the things that i love to think about and talk about! since this is my workspace (they are called "yeniverses") i want to love it more than anyone else. and as an artist, i want to love it even more. so, the community that's there every single day is there because they like these topics and want to talk and discuss them with me. this is nice because no one is really there that doesn't want to be there... instead, these are highly-qualified community members (and customers). it naturally weeds out folks who aren't interested in those things. 3. a feedback system on the product — using a simple `public` room (which you can see at the very [bottom](https://ift.tt/3u9mqCs) i can get direct feedback on the product itself which is the most important part in the very early-stage... i just want to know what works and what doesn't and then i can make those changes and fixes immediately. this is also super-useful because my entire team also can engage with the community and see, for themselves, the needs / wants / wishes / desires of the community at-large. this fixes a lot of the problems where team members are too distant or removed from their customers, which is a common problem as teams scale and grow. keeping this in the same interface as #4 is a total win. 4. internal communication with my team / contractors (slack replacement) — this is probably one of the best parts is that i can use as many `private rooms` as i need to communicate with my fully-distributed team in both real-time and async. i use it for my development team that's helping to build the product as well as unique private rooms for contract teams and special projects. i can create them quickly, invite via email (any email works so you don't have to lock-in any specific domain) and then just get to work. delete them when you're done. (cont'd in the first comment...)

Show HN: Real-World Cryptography, the book, is done and shipping
4 by baby | 1 comments on Hacker News.
hey folks! My book Real-World Cryptography was just released and is now shipping. I've been working on this thing for the last two years and a half, and the goal was to give a good overview of everything that can be classified as "real-world" about crypto. You'll find all the basics in the first half of the book, and the second half contains chapters on TLS, noise, PAKEs, post-quantum cryptography, zero-knowledge proofs, MPC, cryptocurrencies, FHE, etc. So it's a good pick if you're learning, but also if you've been in the field for a while and want an intro to some subfield you're interested in. It's not a reference book, and is written in a light style. Also has some art and lots of diagrams. Anyway, here's the link :) https://ift.tt/3o0k8Vd

Show HN: Fusion – Open-source user analytics and engagement suite
5 by vikas19634 | 2 comments on Hacker News.
Hello everyone, Vikas & Magus here. We are building Fusion (https://www.fusionhq.co), an open-source all-in-one user analytics and engagement platform somewhat similar to CleverTap & Sprig (UserLeap). It is built upon a simplified low-code mixpanel-like analytics engine with built-in live-chat, push-notification and email/micro-surveys. Fusion shows how your users interact with your web based products eg: page-views, button clicks, form submissions etc. But apart from this, Fusion lets you engage with a specific user or group of users who have something in common or perform a particular action, in real-time with live-chat, in-app push notification, email/micro-surveys or set it up to trigger automatically. Story : After getting rejected in Y Combinator-W21 interview and listening to the feedback we scrapped our previous project and started to work on a simplified open-source alternative to mixpanel/amplitude for startups as these platforms were a bit bloated and we could only find session based simplified analytics alternatives like plausible & simple analytics. We quickly realised that our early customers who were also startups did not want to use another SAAS platform because they were already dealing with things like intercom, mailchimp, google-analytics etc. These tools have too many features as they are separate stand-alone platforms and small teams end up spending a lot of time and money. On the other hand integration between all these platforms is crappy and third party customer data platforms like segments are expensive and overkill. We personally use & love crisp.chat not just because of how simple it is but also how it focuses on important features only and still gives an unified experience. Inspired by all these, we decided to build a lightweight all-in-one solution helping startups understand, engage, convert and retain users from a single app. Advantages/Features: Event-driven: captures user interaction like button clicks, form submission etc, not just page visits. Custom visualizations: Unlike google analytics you choose/customize your graphs on your custom dashboard. Graph type (line, bar, pie, table, count), timescale(minute, hourly, daily, weekly), dashboard name etc. Open-source: protect your user data, forget huge SAAS bills and self-host on any infrastructure. No-code autocapture: after adding tracking snippets to your website fusion automatically captures what your users are doing (eg: login clicked, pricing page-view, profile form filled) without adding extra code. Real-time engagement suite: no need to depend on 5 different SAAS apps with complex integration or expensive third party CDPs like segments. coming soon:- Live-chat, in-app/sms push notification, email/micro-surveys. Our vision is to build a lightweight all-in-one user analytics & engagement suite for startups We are featured on ProductHunt : feel free to visit our PH page here - https://ift.tt/3EmbRRh Check out our Github repository at https://ift.tt/2VGE0RA or request for free beta access at https://fusionhq.co We will continue to work with the community to build Fusion. We would love to hear your experiences, criticism, thoughts and ideas! Thanks for your time, Cheers

Two years ago, I started this side project https://ift.tt/3lkgNNW as an open forward testing platform for crypto. Today this platform tracks more than 1400 crypto trading strategies. As a result, we rank their performance in real time and now we start selling monthly subscriptions to automatically trade some of those algorithms. Please let me know what do you think of this project and contact me at support@bitcoinvsalts.com if you think you could help me in creating a business for it.

Show HN: Bubbles – JavaScript Library for cross connected charts and dashboards
5 by sushrut141 | 0 comments on Hacker News.
Hey, I'm the creator of BubblesJS. URL: https://bubblesjs.com/ BubblesJS is a javascript library for creating cross connected charts and dashboards. Key features - Supports chart types like line charts and bar charts. - Support common UI widgets like interactive Tables, Filter Bars and KPIs - charts and widgets can be composed together to create a dashboard of cross connected charts - tiny library < 15KB gzipped This library is motivated by my experience building charts and dashboards for my employers. Using traditional charting libraries gives basic chart types, but applications usually require other UI widgets like tables, applying filters etc which need to be built. Connecting these components requires lot of glue code to pipeline data, transform and filter it and connect these widgets. BubblesJS provides an intuitive API to allow connecting charts and transforming data while also providing cross connectivity. Support for more chart types and better interactivity is upcoming. Some areas of where BubblesJS can be used are: - Exploratory Data Visualization - Building dashboards embedded in applications If you find any other uses for it, I would love to hear from you! Thanks, Sushrut

Show HN: Time Series of CDC's Covid-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Case Reporting
4 by nanis | 1 comments on Hacker News.
The CDC have been providing "COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Case Investigation and Reporting"[1] information for points in time at close to weekly intervals. Every update erases the previous information and there doesn't seem to be an easily accessible table of these data. Snapshots of the page can be found on archive.today[2] and I have saved both those and some recent manually downloaded copies from cdc.gov. Because copying & pasting by hand is error-prone, I wrote some code to extract the bits and pieces. The repo is `nanis/covid19-breakthrough` on GitHub[3]. Snapshots are in the `snapshots` directory. There is also a CSV containing the time series of reported numbers of non-fatal hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 among the fully vaccinated[4]. `out/chart.html` shows the time series of fully vaccinated population in millions, hospitalizations and deaths among the fully vaccinated per 100,000 fully vaccinated individuals. You can view it locally by running a simple local web server[5]. There is a copy online[6]. Show HN: Stamp – A Cryptographic Identity System
2 by orthecreedence | 0 comments on Hacker News.
Hi, everyone. Been playing around with this recently as a sort of PGP successor. It's not all there yet, and I know it's missing some things from PGP, but I figured why not get a start and see what kind of interest/support it might get. https://ift.tt/3nguCzp Effectively, this is a key management system that allows building and signing ("stamping") various claims about yourself and about others. The eventual goal is to create easy-to-use implementations of the protocol that allow logging in to websites or managing cryptographic keys for various security-conscious applications. Secure, simple distributed key management for cryptography and identity management. Currently Stamp uses crypto primitives found in libsodium, but is also built such that different algorithms can be added as needed. The identity itself is set up as a DAG which is appended to by signing transactions with an opinionated set of keys. A DAG was chosen so parallel offline updates could be made and merged later. One of Stamp's main features is it allows recovery of the identity via a pre-determined recovery policy, using signatures from trusted keys (friends, family, institutional providers). Think of it as sort of a multisig recovery mechanism. A few things I'm actively exploring: - A storage network (https://ift.tt/3zWFBBO). This would necessarily need to be some sort of p2p system, and hopefully not blockchain-based as I believe the consensus/validation used in blockchain systems are superfluous to identity storage and retrieval. - Putting stamp on USB keys/embedded devices (ARM TrustZone, RISC-V PMP, etc) so it can be used in more trusted environments. - Some sort of FIDO2 interop would be great so Stamp could act as a login system without having to re-tool a bunch of stuff. There's also a somewhat-incomplete CLI implementation of the protocol here: https://ift.tt/3z649ap. This allows creation of identities, creating and stamping claims, automatic verification of certain claims (www/DNS), as well as cryptographic messaging/signing tools. Let me know what you think! What's good, what's bad, what's missing, etc. Obviously it's early days so more feedback is better.

Show HN: Symbolica – Try our symbolic code executor in the browser
6 by Choc13 | 0 comments on Hacker News.
We're a couple of software engineers who believe that to build great software you need to write good tests, but we also sympathise when engineers say things like: - "Writing tests was too time consuming on my tight schedule", or - "Unit tests don't catch enough bugs, so they're useless", or - "I've inherited a legacy code base without tests and have no idea where to start" To tackle this we're building Symbolica (https://ift.tt/3DTiHO3), a symbolic code executor [1], that lets you run your code for all possible inputs. This means you can do things like: - Assert properties about your code and check that they hold for every conceivable input. - Check that two implementations of the same function/method/program are equivalent, which is really useful if you're refactoring a legacy codebase without tests. - Find out if your code will hit any undefined behaviours, e.g. divide by zero or out of bounds array access. We're still really early in the development of this product, but we're excited to have built a working prototype of the symbolic executor for C programs. We wanted to get some feedback from potential early adopters so we've put up a code playground (https://ift.tt/3DTeOIO) where you can try out Symbolica on C programs in the browser for free. We'd love people to give it a go and give us their thoughts. Our plan is to build this out into a hosted cloud service that you can integrate into your DevOps pipeline (e.g. GitHub actions) so that you can run these symbolic tests on every CI build. Further down the line we plan to add support for other languages too. We've currently got proof of concept implementations for Lisp and Python and will be looking into C++, Rust and .NET after. Of course we're always willing to prioritise a particular language if there's strong demand. If you're interested in what we're building then please either message us at dev@symbolica.dev or join the alpha waiting list if you want to get first access to our full offering once we launch that. For those curious about how the executor works the core part of it is open source on GitHub (https://ift.tt/3BFFrzc) [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic\_execution
