Hello everyone, I’m Sophia, founder of Bugout.dev. I started off as a professional ballerina, and entered technology later in my working life - through the OpenAI Scholars program. My co-founder, Neeraj (zomglings on HN), is a mathematician and now programmer. When I was learning how to code I kept running into issues. I found Stackoverflow and GitHub issues hard to navigate, often leading me to outdated solutions to the problems I was experiencing. That experience made me want a product that would collect crashes and immediately let the creators of the software I was using know about the issue. And when they or their community had fixed the issue, they could notify me about that and direct me to a public site detailing the solution. Over time, this idea evolved and resulted in Bugout.dev. Bugout makes it easy for creators of developer tools to collect usage metrics and crash reports from their users. This applies equally well to libraries, command line utilities, and APIs. We're advocates of ethical data collection, and all reports are collected with clear user consent. Maintainers can also comply with GDPR requests for access and deletion with a single API call each. We are also building a public knowledge base of issues and solutions from open source projects. We were inspired by rustc error messages in this and how they point users to documentation that can help you resolve compiler errors. Projects integrating with Bugout can link users to the knowledge base using a search query, which allows them to direct users to solutions customized to operating system, library version, and even compiler/runtime version. Hello everybody, I'm glad to announce the major release of xocc C compiler, 1.2.1, based on BSD license. xocc is a C compiler that based on XOC infrastructure, XGEN code generator and XOCFE C frontend. Both xocc, XOC, XGEN, and XOCFE are based on BSD license. XOC provides multi-level IRs, flexibility, and the capability of representing almost all popular languages. There are mainly two level IRs used throughout all phases of the compilation. In addition to basic IR, XOC also provides IR builder, BB manipulating api, Control Flow Graph(CFG), IR lowering, Control Dependent Graph, Dominator Tree, Register SSA, Memory SSA, Agressive Flow Sensitive Alias Analysis, Flow Insensitive Alias Analysis, Agressive Field Sensitive Alias Analysis, Interprocedual Analysis Framework, Inliner, Dead Code Elimination, Copy Propagation, GCSE, GVN, and a lot of sophisticated control flow and peephole optimizations. Moveover, XOC does not use any std library, it provides all basic algorithm library such Vector, List, Map, Dense Bitset, Sparse Bitset, Graph, Mempool, Big-Integer, Linear Algebraic library, Linear Programming Solver, just read Manual.txt of XOC. XGEN provides a retargetable machine code generator. For now, it could generate ARM, x86 code. XGEN provides IR2OR translator, Instruction Scheduling, Register Allocation, Instruction Packager, Assembly. XOCFE is C frontend, it prints AST as output. Engineering metrics for developers are becoming more popular and they going in a negative direction and I want to fix this with my developer first engineering metrics. Solutions like GitPrime (now Pluralsight Flow), GitHub Insights (formerly Gitlaytics) and other similar solutions are giving non-technical people a false sense that you can easily roll up metrics to quantify developer productivity. In the "The Space of Developer Productivity" [1] that was posted on HackerNews this week, it goes into great detail to explain that there are a lot of variables at play. In the business world, business intelligence is widely accepted and business leaders do not assume business insights will come easily. People are actually hired to generate business intelligence reports and I'm hoping this type of attitude is adopted for developer insights as well. There are a lot of variables at play, and it should be expected that leaders will need to work for meaningful developer insights. Devtool maintainers have to rely on GitHub issues and IRC/Slack/Discord to talk with their users. They miss out the experience of the majority of their users, who never build up the motivation to create an issue or post a message on Slack. Humbug addresses this problem. I've made a neat service to access SSH over NAT. Unlike ngrok and alternatives with registration, custom software, non-preserved random URLs and ports, this solution is just a remote SSH server which does not require anything more than an SSH client to both host and connect. Technically it allows to publish any service over SSH (web, proxy, any TCP port really), but only with SSH as a destination you'll preserve end-to-end encryption and won't allow my server to snoop on potentially unencrypted traffic. The service is mostly intended to give remote access to the device as fast as possible, given it already has SSH client and server. I've noticed that in the IndieHacker space, there are two distinct groups of people. Group 1: Have a million ideas, a thousand unused domains in their registrar account, and 15 projects that they're currently working on. Group 2: Have the drive to start something, but for the life of them can't find a good idea to start working on. I wanted to try and make a tool on my site that will bridge the gap between these two groups. The idea is this: People from group 1 can list a combination of a domain, logo and business plan on the site. You can list it for sale on any platform such as Gumroad, Shopify, etc. People from group 2 can buy it and they will have a ready-to-go business idea, brand board, domain, etc. that they can start executing with. If you're listing, there are no fees, commissions, etc. It's just totally free traffic. Also, we'll be launching on Product Hunt later this week, so make sure you get your listings up before then! Hi HN! We're a 5 person team working on simplifying the creation of email apps. Right now, most email services focus on outbound emails (newsletters, transactional, delivery), but that doesn't solve the fact that we all hate receiving them. Mailscript lets you create programmable email addresses. It works headless, via the CLI, API (we use Swagger to support most languages). You can even run it as a daemon on a server (to run functions when emails arrive). Once you get username@mailscript.com, you can create as many aliases as you'd like (including on the fly support for *@username.mailscript.com). Just like in Gmail, we support adding . or +. Every address gets an SMTP key as well, so you can use your favourite email client e.g. Gmail... We've been working hard on making the CLI and API easy to understand, and take a trigger/actions approach. We even have parsers for GitHub emails (so you can automate Issues, PRs, Actions). Hi HN. Peter here. As a machine learning engineer, I mostly think in terms of feature vectors, embeddings, and matrices. One of the most useful byproducts of deep neural networks is embeddings because they allow us to represent high-dimensional data in terms of lower-dimensional latent vectors. These feature vectors can be used for downstream applications like similarly search, recommendation systems and near duplicate detection. As an ML engineer, I was frustrated by the lack of a datastore in which vectors are first-class citizens. As a result, most ML engineers, including myself, end up using awkward workarounds to store vectors such as arrays in SQL/NoSQL databases, stringifying vectors and storing them as text in in-memory-based caching systems such as Redis ETC. Furthermore, these systems don't allow for vector-based query operations such as nearest neighbor search. Consequently, engineers have to deploy additional approximate nearest neighbor search systems such as Facebook's FAISS or Spotify's ANNOY. These systems, while nifty and fast, are difficult to install and are costly to maintain. To address these issues, I built NNext, a managed vector datastore in which vectors are first class citizens. NNext, allows you to store vectors along with any json-blob metadata. Furthermore, NNext comes with a fast approximate nearest-neighbor (ANN) search capability.
