Show HN: Thi.ng – open-source building blocks for computational design
12 by toxmeister | 0 comments on Hacker News.
The first stage of the new http://thi.ng website is live, an up-to-date & hopefully more useful springboard to the 250+ projects and overview of my opensource activity since 2006... Work is ongoing, collecting & re-organizing projects, assets, documentation and extracting interrelationships (incl. older work & music projects (e.g. http://thi.ng/synstack related), clients/people...). Aim is a proper archive of the past 20+ years of outputs & encounters. This is the first website update since 2015. As the timeline visualizations show, building(http://thi.ng) > marketing(http://thi.ng) - maybe unusual these days, but hey... :) The entire site is generated w/ tools from the http://thi.ng/umbrella collection, e.g. http://thi.ng/egf (graph file format), http://thi.ng/csv (semantic CSV parsing), https://ift.tt/37k8nPP (functional data transformations), http://thi.ng/defmulti (multiple dispatch for template engine), http://thi.ng/hiccup (HTML/SVG generation), http://thi.ng/viz (timeline visualizations), http://thi.ng/color (heatmap gradients) There's also a massive spreadsheet (148k cells adjacency matrix) to centrally define & manage the 570+ tags used to categorize the 257 projects/repositories and to batch update their package files (edits ongoing, much fun!). The tag/project relationships are compiled into an HTML list with project IDs stored as base90-encoded data attributes for each tag in the tag cloud (http://thi.ng/#tags) The timeline visualizations are generated directly from local Git repos, package files and associated metadata stored in a number of linked http://thi.ng/egf graphs. The site toolchain will be released in due course... Last but not least, any constructive feedback (good or bad) is very welcome! The next phase will include more individual project details, images, making-of docs, videos, xrefs etc. Currently, just a step in the right direction...

Show HN: A file server for Android, end-to-end encryption, web access
2 by brugeman | 1 comments on Hacker News.
Recently I've been playing with an idea of a file server on my Android phone, with a web browser access. I wanted to replace: - AirDroid - sending files to my own PC or laptop. - ShareIt - sending big files over the local network to my family devices. - Dropbox - sharing select files with other people over the Internet. Requirements I had in mind: - end-to-end encryption, no sign ups, no accounts, no passwords - local connection if devices are on the same network - asynchronous access, server should work seamlessly in the background This week I finally managed to stitch the pieces together and get something usable and useful. I now have full access to my phone on my laptop browser, I can share files with a link without uploading to the cloud, and the local network is used whenever possible. The file server app is on the PlayStore[1], web-client is here[2], and you can check out the roadmap[3]. Shoutouts to these great tools that made it possible: - libsodium[4], and it's JS version, are used for the end-to-end encryption - StreamSaver.js[5], to save large files from a non-HTTP transport without buffering it in RAM. Had to patch it to add back pressure when the download is paused. Current limitations: - p2p only works on local networks, wait until WebRTC transport is implemented in the server - when downloading several files, a Zip is generated, with a 4Gb size limit, wait until I figure out the way to fix this. With a single file, it's downloaded in plain and without limits. Please roast this thing! -- [1] https://ift.tt/3kkSYUl [2] http://web.recall.im [3] https://recall.im [4] https://ift.tt/1c1syLN [5] https://ift.tt/2cMeXWn [*] A demo of some files I shared, served by my phone: https://ift.tt/3639zHA

Show HN: A tool that generates math worksheets that you don't need to print
2 by anticlickwise | 0 comments on Hacker News.
I made this tool that creates math worksheets that need not be printed. The students can simply answer online. It takes care of the "right to left" ordering of text inputs as well. I created this for my brother's daughter's school because I was tired of printing her math assignments. The teachers can see all the answers in one place against the original sheet so it makes life easy for them rather than scanning the answers sent by parents via email. If you know teachers/parents please send this to them. I could add more features like annotating answers etc but I want to know if this is useful. The link: https://ift.tt/3fkvYU8

Show HN: SwanLove – The Dating Website Based on LinkedIn and Movies Preferences
2 by langitbiru | 0 comments on Hacker News.
I just launched a dating website, SwanLove (https://swan.love). There are 2 ways to search people: using Linkedin and movies preferences. 1. Using Linkedin You register in SwanLove website. Then you submit your vanity name of your Linkedin profile. If your Linkedin profile URL is https://ift.tt/3lOFfWW, your vanity name is "aragorn-son-of-arathorn". Then you must verify your Linkedin profile by creating a public Linkedin post containing a random string generated by SwanLove. Finally, you submit the URL of the public post so SwanLove can verify it. Then you can send "likes" to someone, for example someone who has this URL of Linkedin profile: https://ift.tt/3pJxt2D. You just submit "arwen-daughter-of-elrond" as someone you like. Then if the owner of that Linkedin profile registers in SwanLove website, the owner can like your profile after verification. Both of you are matched! 2. Using movies preferences You submit movies / tv series you have watched or are watching in your dating profile. Then you can browse dating profiles in the movie page (for example Queen's Gambit move page). The second way does not require Linkedin account. In the future, you can link your Goodreads account to find people based on books preferences. That's all. I hope it will be useful for you in your romance life! Arjuna Sky Kok

Show HN: Anima 4 (YC S18) – Turn design work into developer-friendly React code
4 by avishic | 0 comments on Hacker News.
Hi everyone! We’re Avishay, Or, and Michal, co-founders of Anima (www.animaapp.com). Anima converts design (Figma/Sketch/XD) into code automatically. Up until today, we only produced HTML/JS/CSS. With our latest release, we can now also generate developer-friendly React code. We’re here to replace image-based handoff, which involves a lot of grunt work for the engineers who have to translate all those images into code that does the same thing. For designers, the pain we solve is the ping-pong, and their vision getting lost in translation. The bottom line is that teams can deliver faster. With our latest release, developers can now cherry-pick any design element and get code. The generated code is clean, dependency-free, and runnable. We produce HTML or React, and soon Vue.js and Angular. Over the past few months, we've been iterating with our community (now 300,000 users) to find out what still bothers developers when getting generated code, and have been tackling these issues one by one. For examples, we recently added an automatic flex layout, our software now extracts repeating UI components automatically as React components, and it also now can detect CSS patterns and extract common behavior. Our goal is to produce human-level UI code, leaving only business logic to humans. The code we generate is clean and developer-friendly and gets better every day. We’d love to get your feedback on this. Check it out and let us know your questions and ideas. Criticism is welcome! Thank you!

Show HN: Disco, a platform for independent artists to reach more fans
5 by mnjn | 1 comments on Hacker News.
Just launched the MVP of my startup today after two weeks of non-stop work. Right now, Disco is an artist discovery platform where artists can submit their Spotify tracks for users to listen to through a Tinder-like UI, swiping right on the ones they like. The vision is far grander, of course, and involves fostering greater artist <-> fan connection while also providing a sustainable source of revenue for artists. The music industry in its current state is too impersonal and not sustainable for all but the biggest artists. The solution to both problems is artist <-> fan connection/engagement, where an artist's fans can interact directly with the artist and actually connect with them rather than cheer them on from far away. I believe loyal fans will be willing to financially support their favorite artists in exchange for that level of connection. Disco is aiming to build the platform to enable that. I focused the MVP on discovery in order to focus on artists who are just starting their career. I'm excited to conduct lots of interviews to really understand the problems they face. More info on the future of Disco is here: https://info.disco.so The actual app is here: https://disco.so As always, I am open to any and all feedback :)

Show HN: Ambra – Task Management Reinvented
5 by betimd | 0 comments on Hacker News.
hey hackers , Me and the team are super excited to launch Ambra - https://ambra.app – a collaboration tool enabling teams to organize tasks in a natural way by using only tags and mentions, all in a single box. Ambra removes the necessity of having multiple fields for creating a task – there is one single box to rule them all. We empower writing tasks naturally. Defining a fully descriptive task in traditional tools is not a simple process. You’ve to start writing the task title, description, and additional form fields for task status, priority, assignee, etc. It means there are some ceremonies to be followed. Working for many years with different remote and office teams, I saw that every team develops its own ubiquitous language. This is more emphasized especially when it comes to daily tasks description language. This level of understanding helps the project team to communicate quickly while eliminating inaccuracies and contradictions; and that’s an attribute of a – smart team. Describing a task in a natural way using one single box, without the need for multiple form fields, makes the task data entry process trivial and helps the team focus on delivering – what’s most important for an agile team – values. A flat team is responsible enough to focus on productivity and move the tasks to #done. However, they should have a proper tool to achieve that – that’s where Ambra comes. An example: Hey @ troy we need #todo a #presentation of the website to the customer #urgent. You immediately know the status of the task, who's in charge for and when it's needed. Ambra is offered as freemium, you can go now and create your first project, invite your teammates, or just start assigning tasks to yourself and feel the simplicity. We love to hear your feedback.

Show HN: Flyable - One of the fastest way to execute Python code
2 by FlyableGuy | 0 comments on Hacker News.
Recently, I saw few Python accelerators getting a lot of attention, and I thought it would be a good time to finally present the project that we will make available to test in the upcoming days. Flyable is an ahead-of-time compiler that takes your Python code, analyses it, and outputs very optimized machine code. Micro-benchmarks show that it produces programs that run between 10-70x time faster than Python. Flyable is certainly one of the fastest and easiest ways to accelerate your Python code. It finally allows Python to compete in the ring of fast and efficient languages without having to add nasty non-python stuff that some other implementations need. Here is a quick demo (1 min) : https://ift.tt/3mKqeVS You can freely register to the beta to try it out at http://flyable.dev/ ! Thank you !
